Distribution Authorisation and Refresher Training (DART)
Provides for refresher training and assessment of staff with authorisation to carry out switching on High and Low Voltage distribution networks.
Learning materials and assessment cover the implementation of safety precautions necessary for work to be carried out on the networks, and test the user’s ability to apply the Distribution Safety Rules and related operational procedures to specific practical situations. Learning materials are available for:
- Control Room Operations in which the user has to check and approve a switching schedule for a planned maintenance job at an 11kV substation. The user has to check network conditions and make appropriate decisions to enable the job to be carried out.
- Customer Restoration (following an HV fault) in which the user has to take decisions and initiate actions to locate a fault on a section of 11kV network and restore supplies to as many customers as possible.
- LV Operations in which switching operations to transfer load from one substation to another are carried out, and that are subsequently affected by a system fault.
- LV Fault Situation in which the user has to decide on the correct actions to minimise interruptions of supply to customers whilst carrying out repairs to accidental damage on a typical LV network. Users can select overhead or underground equipment as required.
- Substation Access in which Competent Persons with authority to enter substations are required to demonstrate that they can recognise and deal with a range of hazards that could be encountered in a typical distribution substation.
- Work in a 33kV Outdoor Substation Compound in which items of equipment are to be isolated and made safe for maintenance work, and a safe zone of work identified and properly demarcated.
- 132kV Work/Operations in which a busbar isolator has to be taken out of service for repair, requiring isolation and earthing of a section of busbar in an open type substation.
- Safety Rules Questions a bank of over 300 questions covering the theoretical knowledge of the Distribution Safety Rules, from which a random selection can be used to create assessments for various categories of personnel.
Other learning materials can be developed as required to cover any related subject area or operational situation for distribution authorisation training.
Average Duration: 1 - 2 hours per topic, depending on the user’s current level of knowledge and experience.
